Race Fans ~ Start Your Predictions
|
It’s
Daytona Week which means the 2019 season is finally here.
New
cars. New drivers. New Teams.
New Sponsors. New Rules. New Leadership. New Hope.
After
this race it will be out with restrictor plates and in with the tapered
spacers, so even the air intake will be different in 2019. Heck, even the Race Director is going to
change.
We
have the qualifications and the Crash, I mean Clash behind us so we’ve had a
look at what’s in store. Now comes the
fun part. It’s time now for 2019 answers
to the questions beyond the burning question of “Who will win the 2019 Daytona
500?”
Questions
like-
Will
the Mustang have more success than the Camaro did last year or will Ford drivers
struggle? If what we’ve seen is any
indication, they’re going to do all right.
Which
driver will be the points leader at the end of this
“regular season?” Kevin Harvick would
be my pick.
Who
will be crowned 2019 Cup Champ? Can
Logano repeat? Will Johnson win his
eighth? Will we get a new champ? Logano looks strong as does Johnson but I
think we’ll see a new face this year.
Who
will be the first to have a win taken away by the new DQ rules? NOTE-NASCAR is missing out not getting Dairy
Queen involved as the “Official Post-Race Inspection Sponsor” I give the nod
to Kevin Harvick only because William Byron has to win first to have something
that Chad did get him disqualified.
Who
will get a points paying win first - Jimmie Johnson or Chad Knaus? I’ll go with Jimmie.
Winless
driver from last season who gets in Victory Lane first-Jimmie Johnson or Denny
Hamlin? Again, I’ll go with Jimmie.
First
driver to win for each make?
Chevy-Chase
Elliott
Ford-Kevin
Harvick
Toyota-Kyle
Busch
Driver
with most race wins this season? Kyle
Busch
Which
Driver gets their first ever win first? William
Byron
Car
make with most wins? Ford by a nose
Will
NASCAR be sold? Not this year...
The
great thing is we have 36 races ahead to get the answers to those questions.
What
do you think? Put your predictions in
the comments below and we’ll have some fun and come back after Homestead and
see who got the closest. It’ll be fun.
Predictions
are fun. It’s an opportunity to take a
chance... another chance to compete.
Like most things, a chance to be bold or measured. Be serious or silly. Doesn’t cost a thing but a few minutes and
some key strokes. So have some fun, take
a few minutes and let us know your predictions for 2019. If we missed a question, be sure to include
it. It’ll be fun.
Then
there is one final question-the most important one this 36 race season will
answer. Think about this one long and
hard before you answer this one.
Will
NASCAR find their way?
Earlier
this month, NASCAR President Steve Phelps stated that “We
probably lost our way.” In light
of all the removed bleachers, empty seats, anemic car counts, exiting sponsors,
gliding-like-a-rock TV viewership numbers can best be summed up in one response
- “Ya reckon?!?!?”
As
I read Mr. Phelps’ remarks I couldn’t help but think of the story about that
wise old sports sage Yogi Berra. As the
story goes, “Once Yogi was driving to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown,
New York with some other players. After passing the same landmark three times a
fellow player named Joe Garagiola said ‘Yogi, you’re
lost’ and he replied: ‘Yeah, I know it. But we’re making good
time, ain’t we?’”
We’ve
made incredible time over the last dozen years or so.
2019
is full of changes which have been discussed by numerous writers so far,
including our own PattyKay
Lilley. Will those be
enough?
So
what do you think? Will NASCAR find its way?
We’ll
know for sure in 36 races. We’ll get an
indication this Sunday.
