Michigan Wrap and Daytona Picks
Michigan Double Header
Wrap-up and Results
The Traveling Circus overnighted in Michigan’s Irish Hills for the second Double Header of the season. Saturday saw Kevin Harvick taking the Checkers for season win number five.
Inverting the field for Sunday’s race had little effect on the outcome as it was a 156 lap version of that old Herman’s Hermits’ song with the line “Second verse, same as the first” as Harvick dominated the field and drove into Victory Lane for back-to-back wins.
Compiling the results, I felt for J. L. Steele who missed perfection by one position, picking second place Brad K in the first race and then backing it up with a Kevin Harvick pick in Race Two. As Maxwell Smart used to say, “Missed it by that much.”
But it was points leader PattyKay Lilley who was perfect for the weekend picking the Busch Light Apple #4 of Harvick’s for both wins. She was the only one to pick Happy on Saturday and along with J. L. and Vivian Simons had him first the second race.
As the Fantasy Racers closed the Michigan Chapter on Sunday evening you could almost see PattyKay looking back out her window with her 80-point weekend shouting “Eat my Dust! See you in Daytona... if you can catch me!”
That would be a stretch for she’s far too humble for that but I’m sure she had a smile on her face when it was over. Let’s see how the rest of the Fantasy Field stacked up after both races.

And here’s Sunday’s results
The historic 80-point weekend just padded Lilley’s point lead. Here are the Standings after Michigan One
Things didn’t get any better for the remainder of the field after Michigan Two.
As the regular season winds down (which doesn’t impact us here as this Fantasy Race is done the right way-free of Playoffs and Chases) as they say there is lots of racing still to come. Let’s go bowling to Daytona and see how the rest of the season starts to play out.
Go Bowling 235 Daytona Road Course
Picks and Prognostications
This COVID-19 Watkins Glen replacement race finds the Traveling Circus back in Daytona to tackle the high banked, high speed road course. Since this is the first time ever running the course in this configuration and in this direction, there is no history, no statistics, not a clue to discuss to help guide readers in their picks. Plus, there is a good chance for rain on race day. So, if you go with the best wet track, road racing, restrictor plate driver you might do well. Then again...
So rather than guess, let’s get right to our picks and see what our Fantasy Racers think will happen this weekend in Daytona.
Leading off will be Points leader PattyKay...
PattyKay Lilley
Well, after spending the better part of 3 days trying to talk myself into taking a ride with Chase Elliott, I lost the argument. There is nothing like winning to produce more winning. It's called "Momentum" and it's obvious who has it at the moment. Don't touch a thing. I'm staying with Kevin in the #4!
Frank Buhrman
I kind of liked it when the old NASCAR Grand American series ran the Paul Revere 250 at night on the Daytona road course. With fans not playing much of a role, why couldn't we do that? It's no weirder than the other nonsense coming out of Daytona these days. Regardless, I'm going to go with Martin Truex.
Vivian Simons
No history, no practice, and no qualifying, so no research to review or consider. That being the case, I am going with Martin Truex, Jr in the #19 car for the road course race at Daytona.
Berra Nordin
NASCAR has another curveball in store for us this time in form of, not only first Daytona Road Course but also the 750 HP and the high downforce package! Winner on Sunday? Well my guess #19 Martin Truex Jr.
Kelly Meiste
Four races left in the regular season. Kyle has to win. Put me down for the #18.
Vicq Ruiz
I was tempted to pick a longshot this week but my strategy (ha!) keeps me pinned on the #19 car. Next year I'm goin' back to Haiku, seemed to do pretty well by me.
Hal Ashburn
Time to take a chance on Chase. Young Mr. Elliott in the #9.
Will Dossett
#8 Tyler Reddick
J. L. Steele
It's truly the unknown. The last time we had a race like this (the first Charlotte Roval race), a desperate driver made a bold move that almost paid off. That same driver is desperate again, so I'll pick him, Jimmie Johnson, for the win.
John Barnes
Hamlin
David Nance
Ryan Blaney. Maybe it’s a short enough race so when the checkers drop, he’ll be out in front.
