Fantasy Picks 2020 ~ Phoenix 1
Fontana
Wrap-up and Results
Fontana
moved up to the third race of the season, becoming the middle race in the early
season Western Swing. This change did
not deter our pack of Fantasy Racers but only showed once again how dialed in
they were for this race. The third race
of the season, third race winner picked by our racers. Berra Nordin picked this week’s race winner,
Alex Bowman and his 40 points allowed him to close the gap in the points
standings on the other competitors. Berra bested Frank Buhrman, Hal Ashburn and
Kelly Meiste who finished second with Kyle Busch and J. L. Steele rounded out
the podium finishes coming in third. It
was a very competitive race as our Racers not only had the race winner and five
in the top three, but had seven finish in the Top Five, eight Top Ten and all
but one finished 12th or better. It was
an impressive performance as outlined below.
The
strong finishes resulted in another shuffling in the points standings as Frank Buhrman
passed John Barnes to take over the points lead. There were seven points position changes with
Hal Ashburn being the biggest gainer and David Nance dropping like a proverbial
rock. Check below for the current points
standings and changes.

Shield 500-Phoenix Picks
The
Traveling Circus closes out its Western Swing on the desert track once again
known as Phoenix. We’ll go metric, with
a race distance of 500 kilometers and it will be the first of fourteen races
that will be using to new/old low downforce aero package. The BASs will be replaced with 2” spoilers
(or something thereabouts) in hopes of improving the short track competition. In the past, if you looked up Phoenix in the
old Webster’s Dictionary you would see Kevin Harvick’s picture. Will he adjust to the changes and continue
his hold on the track or will someone else hit on the right setup and move into
Victory Lane? With the 2020 Finale
moving here this season it will be interesting to see how the racers will set
up for this week. Lots of variables,
lots of changes going forward. Let’s
take a look back to see if we can gain any insight into this week’s results.
That’s
what the Phoenix Fast Facts say, let’s see what our Fantasy Racers think about
this week’s race.

This
one I don't have to look over. If it's Phoenix, it must be Harvick. It's that
simple. Of course, that hasn't worked the last several years, but I'm
going to ride with it anyway. Kevin has been SO good here, so often... then
they go and mess with the track and change things around. I'm still riding with
#4, Kevin Harvick.
Frank
Buhrman
I
really felt good about Kyle Busch at Vegas, and he never got it together. I
don't feel as good this time, but I'm going with the #18, anyway. Harvick and
Logano are valid choices, too, but I think the Gibbs team is ready for another
win, so Go, Kyle!

I
can remember when the only one to select for the win at Phoenix was that #4
with Kevin Harvick driving it. However, things have changed, and Toyota has
taken over which puts me in a dilemma. I have a hard time selecting any of the
JGR drivers. This is one of those races that calls for extreme selection. Ryan
Blaney has had speed all year and he has been driving very well and I want to
very much pick him; but he also seems to be the Hard Luck Kid. That being said,
I still think I will go with him to win Phoenix, so go Ryan #12!!! No bad luck
this weekend, please…

First
race of the year with the short track package, let’s hope this will provide us
with a little better racing than what we got to see on the shorter tacks last
year! I'm going to go with #18 Kyle Busch this week. He and Kevin
Harvick have been the best here, but Kyle won the draw, so I just hope my
luck holds on this week again!!

18
missed it by a whisker last week. 18 is
going nail it this week.

I'll
take Harvick. Just a hunch, no reason....
Hal
Ashburn
I
so want to pick the #12 but afraid he's got the David curse on him. So
guess I'll let it ride with KB in the #18
Will
Dossett
I
think Young Money may be upset enough at Hamlin to win this week. Kyle in
terms 42!
J.
L. Steele
If
ever there is a no-brainer, it's Kevin Harvick at Phoenix.
John
Barnes
Dang,
I should've gone with the 18 like I wanted.
Yes. I think I will take him this week.
A week late and a penny short. But that’s how I roll.
David
Nance
I
think this is the 12’s week this week.
But you have heard that all before.
Penske called and offered a sizable sum of unmarked bills to not pick
his driver this week. I’m going to do my
part and pick the future driver if the #48, Brad Keselowski for the win this
week. If you don’t get an email asking
for your Atlanta picks, you’ll know the Captain came through!
