Fantasy Picks 2020 ~ Charlotte 2
Charlotte Race Results & Points
This weekend was scheduled to be THE racing weekend of the season with F1 racing from Monaco, the Indy 500 and closing with NASCAR’s longest race-the Coca-Cola 600. The little bug from China changed all that as F1 and IndyCar were not able to run, leaving Charlotte to have the world racing stage all to herself.
It was an unusual event. Denny Hamlin dumped ballast on the track before the race began. Passes for the lead was rare. There was a rain delay. The race-winning pass took place as the leader Chase Elliott pitted for tires with a couple of laps left and second place finisher, Jimmy Johnson was disqualified. When it was all over Brad Keselowski won the race. None of our Fantasy Racers had the Blue Deuce but Hal Ashburn, Vivian Simons and Berra Nordin all had the eventual second place finisher-Chase Elliott for this week’s Fantasy win.
The Racers had a great week as all but one had Top 10 Picks. Here are the Final Race Results.
Frank Buhrman continued his stranglehold on the Points Standings. Here is the Points Standings after our seventh race.
Well, it’s back to Charlotte for the extremely light version on Sunday’s race. Let’s
see how our Racers will see how it goes down.
Alsco 500K Picks
Well, it’s back to the Queen City Quad-Oval for Midweek Makeup Race #2.
It will be on the same track (Oval), with the same HP/Aero Setup, same drivers and teams as Sunday. Main difference is the race starts under the lights. It is a significantly shorter version of Sunday’s race. This will be a three-stage affair (55/115/208) whose overall length will be slightly longer than two stages of Sunday’s race.
Martin Truex, Jr. is the defending race champ and has been the dominant driver of late at the long race. Jimmie Johnson is the current King of the 1.5 mile quad-oval with four wins at this race and overall 8 wins at this track, Other race winners include Kyle Busch, Austin Dillon and Kevin Harvick. Brad Keselowski nabbed a win here when they ran a 500 miler before the ROVAL.
That’s several to choose from. Do you go with race experience or try new blood like Chase Elliott or Joey Logano? Let’s see who our Fantasy Racers will think will be doing burnouts come late Sunday night in Charlotte.
And on we go to Charlotte... not once, but twice. First one up is the 600, a race that probably should not exist, as it's no longer the endurance test it was created to be. For that one, I'll put my nickel on #19, Martin Truex Jr. Then, for the shorter race, which will NOT be run on the Roval, I'll ride with Chase Elliott. I really think he'll make sure that KyBu doesn't get him again!
Maybe I'm just getting lazy, or old, or both. I wanted to do more studying to justify picking Chase Elliott, who really might win this thing, or there might be another upset choice - all that's possible. But I was willing to limit myself to a 90-second look at the past couple of years, and despite the nagging thought, "Is Bowman about to break out?" I decided to just flip last week’s picks and go with Kyle Busch on Sunday and Denny Hamlin Wednesday. Maybe next week, the inspiration will kick in.
I am going with Chase Elliot # 9 to win the first race at Charlotte. He looked good at Darlington and I think he will get the job done without interference this time!
However, I am a SHR fan so am going with a Ford and picking Kevin Harvick to win the second race. Good luck to all the drivers.
Darlington races in the books and Charlotte is on I don't have any good idea for the 600 yet but maybe #9 Chase Elliott gets his win now instead! About the Wednesday 500 km it is going to be hard to bet against #19 Martin Truex Jr who has been very good here the last couple of years!
Well, the doors were safe last week as the only thing the 18 knocked were fenders, but that’s OK. I’ll stick with him to pull off the double!
If both races are on the big track (they are) I'll stick with Truex for both".
Lord we are all mixed up. Just came to me that you might need the picks. Think I'll change things up. 1st race the #9 of Chase. 2nd race my favorite driver Matt Kenseth.
C1, #8, Tyler Reddick; C2, John Hunter Nemechek
J. L. Steele
He's won three of the last six on the Charlotte tri-oval, so Martin Truex, Jr. is my pick for the 600.
Chase Elliott wins the 500k race.
Wednesday: Kyle Busch
Well that was a bust. I’ll try Joey Logano for the Sunday race and Ryan Newman for the shorter, Wednesday race.
