Fantasy Picks ~ Michigan 2
Race Recap and Results
“Go Bowling at the Glen 300”
The N.Y. road course proved good for a couple of our Fantasy Racers. Mitch’s pick of race winner Chase Elliott was most fitting that this Georgia winner-picker had Georgia’s favorite son in his first win. The 40 points for the win allowed Mitch to slip by Vicq in the fantasy standings.
David had the 78 for second and it was a three-way tie between PattyKay, Berra and Vivian with Harvick’s 10th place finish. Berra earned enough points to nip Frank and move into second behind PattyKay.
Let’s take a look at the full rundown of the “Go Bowling at the Glen 300” results-
"Consumers Energy 400"
The Traveling Circus returns to the Irish Hills for Race 23. The 2-mile track was dominated by Fords the last time they visited nine races ago. Clint Bowyer was the first of three SHR cars to cross the line for podium finishes. Kyle Busch’s fourth place finish and Chase Elliott’s eighth place finish broke up Ford’s total domination of the Top 10.
Bowyer’s win broke Kyle Larson’s string of three wins in a row, moisture assisted. Kurt Busch is also a three time winner here... but his are stretched over 15 years. Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Newman all have two wins here as well. Two of the Big Three have visited Victory Lane-Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch. Martin Truex Jr. has run strong here but is the winless one of the group. Is this his time? ‘Ol Seven Time has a win here as well. A Michigan win would break his unprecedented winless streak and lock him in for a run for #eight.
It will be interesting to see whether Ford continues their domination or is Chase Elliott’s win last week the start of a Chevy resurgence? Will it be a Ford parade or will they follow Kyle’s Toyota across the line?
Only four more assured slots into the Chase/Playoff/Whatever. Will we see a new face take this week’s slot, an old face without a win this season or will a previous winner shut down the opportunities for others to make it in?
Let’s see how our pack of prognosticators think this week’s race is going to play out...
It's rather refreshing to have this little game to play. It forces one to look at the good side of racing and Michigan has always been a favorite track for me. While celebrating Chase Elliott's first win, many comparisons were made to his Dad's early career, including each getting the coveted first win on a road course. Riverside and Watkins Glen. Out of curiosity, I checked on Bill's second win. It came at race 15 of the 1984 season, at Michigan! Yep! I'd love to see that one repeat as well, so put me down for
our new Golden Boy, #9, Chase Elliott!
I really, really want to pick Eric Jones this week, and I may hit myself for not doing so, but I just have a feeling that Michigan isn't going to a longer shot this time, and as much as I'd like to go with Larson or Elliott, I don't think it's going to a Chevy. Michigan is so even for everybody that you only need to blow your nose under green and you drop to 27th place, but I'll hope Kyle Busch's sinuses hold up, because I think the #18 will win.
Michigan is coming and it appears that Kyle Larson has been very successful at that track. I would like to see him win again but he sometimes seems to be a very iffy pick. I am not sure anyone else currently has as good of a record at this time. I have reservations about picking Bowyer or Logano even though they have won there. Things are just crazy this year with the top 3 of KyBu, Truex and Harvick taking most of the wins. My in-house expert just advised either Larson or Harvick. Threw their names in a cap and let him pick after I shook them around a bit. Hey, hey, hey, out came my old standby, Harvick in that #4 Ford!!!

It's tempting to go with one of the "Big 3" of 2018 and valid arguments can be made for each of them. I can't do it though. Maybe I'm putting too much stock in Chevrolet's win on Sunday but the fact is, Kyle Larson has been running near the front even while the Bowties have been struggling. He's had more success at Michigan than anywhere else on the circuit, so I'm taking the 42 on Sunday.
Sorry I am late. We just took over local track and been covered up with added duties, I am going to say the 2 comes from the back and takes the win. Brad Kez for the win, shaking things up.
(Good luck with the new track, Mitch!)
So we're off to MIS for the second time this year! Last time we were here we had a SHR 1-2-3 and rain! Let’s hope we don't see the rain this time. A SHR 1-2-3 is ok by me-the rain, not when its race time!
Last week must have felt good for every race fan with the Elliott kid winning!!! So with the Chevys running a bit better maybe it's time for Larson this week or maybe one of the JGR young guns, or maybe Brad Keselowski, he needs to have something good going sometime soon!
Well now for my pick this week, #41 Kurt Busch it is time for him to get his win this year!
It's Chase Elliot on momentum and recent history.
My pick, every week, will be Bubba Wallace. My reasoning is my hope is that Richard Petty will have a successful year with his team and I'm supporting that hope every way I can.
Last week it was do I pick the #18 for the jinx or go with the head with the #78 or heart with the #2? I’ll try the head and the #78 again this week.
