Fantasy Picks ~ Kansas 2
Race Recap and Results
The Traveling Circus made it through the 500 plus miles of Alabama high banks relatively unscathed as this race’s “Big One” only involved six cars. All day long it looked like if you had picked an SHR car you were sitting pretty as the four Fords hooked up and drove off from the field. PattyKay was sitting pretty with her Kurt Busch until the final lap. Kurt had dominated the SHR dominated race and was heading for the win when he ran out of fuel coming down for the Checkers allowing teammate Aric Almirola to get his second win. If that wasn’t frustrating enough, cars were crashing behind them that Kurt said should have resulted in a caution which would have secured his win. Kurt (and probably PattyKay) weren’t happy with the decisions and results but the 14th place finish garnered enough points to move past Berra into second in our points standings.
As all our pickers would agree, any plate race at Talladega is a crap shoot and the results confirmed their feelings as there was only one finisher in the top 10 this week, with the remainder of the field being caught up in wrecks, fuel issues or other Talladega oddities. And even though this is the last “plate race” here, it will be interesting to see if next year’s move to tapered spacers make a difference or changes the odds.
So let’s go to the scoreboard to see how our pickers fared in the 1000Bulbs.com 500 from Talladega.

The dust has settled on Talladega and the Traveling Circus rolls into Kansas for the 32nd race of the season. This is an elimination race, reducing the Chase contenders’ field to eight. Kevin Harvick was our winner here earlier this year. Previous winners include the usually cast of characters-Harvick (2), Truex, Jr. (2), Logano (2). Other winners include, Busch the Younger, Hamlin and Keselowski. Jimmie Johnson has the most wins among active drivers with 3. Is this the track where he makes it four and breaks his winless streak? Chaser and last week’s winner, Aric Almirola has had strong showings here in the past... can he make it two in a row? Even though this is on a mile and a half and those can be snoozers, maybe this being an elimination race with change the dynamics and improve the competition. Sunday will tell.
There’s a lot to consider with this week’s picks-let’s see how our Fantasy Racers see this race coming down-
Well, last week didn't work quite as planned. I took the guy that led by far the most laps, only to have NASCAR run an extra caution lap into "overtime" and watch Kurt and several others all run their tanks dry. Kurt only had a half a lap or less to go when it sputtered. We settled for 14th, which was better than most. Berra, sorry for that little shove toward the wall when I passed you. No hard feelings, right? Now we're off to the Land of Oz, Kansas! A mile and a half snooze fest. I'm gonna dance this one with the guy that brung me. #4 Kevin Harvick.
OK, Furniture Row, listen up! You owe me! I didn't hold those other races against you, because the wrecks were somebody else's fault, but going to Talladega and running around like a grandmother all day (knowing that your grandmother can go 200 mph - she just turtles for effect when she's in front of you and you're in a hurry) - no excuses! You can win at Kansas - DO IT! I'm putting my money on the #78.
I am going to stick with Harvick, #4 again this week.

For the last two weeks I've gone with longshots and came up empty. It's time to go back to what's been tried and found true in 2018. Considering how hot he was earlier in the season, it seems like it's time for Kevin Harvick to win again so that's who I'm going with for Kansas.
On a roll, and since the 2 win's that Chase has had, I have been over to Dawsonville talking with Gordon Pirkle at the Ga. Hall of Fame, AND with me going back over this weekend... it's #9 one more time showing what he really does have!
Now with ‘Dega in the books I'm left with the feeling of justice has been served to Aric Almirola after being dumped at Daytona coming to the checkered!! The one question that keeps popping up in my mind is why not throw the red-flag there at the end instead of having the cars running around on yellow, while track workers are doing their thing!!
Well Kansas it is and no feeling at all on who's going to win this one! I go safe here and just pick one of the recent winners here, #18 Kyle Busch it is!!
My contrarian strategy this year worked out about as well as Mikey's old #30 car did against the Bristol wall, so,,, for the final ten, I am picking Kyle Busch all the way, hopin' that either I won't see him making the big speech at Vegas, or that I'll claw my way out of the RFF crawl space. And I get to eat some M&Ms during the race without feelin' guilty....
My pick, every week, will be Bubba Wallace. My reasoning is my hope is that Richard Petty will have a successful year with his team and I'm supporting that hope every way I can.
Joey Logano did well for me last week and has shown strong here in the past, so I’ll stick with him one more time. One more time. I’ve ridden the #22 horse a long way, hope I didn’t stay on him too long.
