Week’s Recap and Results
And the winner is (again) Kevin Harvick. He did. For the third time this season, the No. 4 Ford found Victory Lane again, much to the delight of PattyKay, Vivian and J. L. The 40 points boosted their points totals nicely and shuffled the standings big-time.
PattyKay looked quite Harvick’esque as she used her 40 points to blow by Berra and David like they had both missed a shift on the final restart. Of course in this game, 18th and 19th places respectively is missing a shift. Drafting is not the factor here as at other tracks but Vivian and J. L. with their 40 point run looked like they were hooked up going to the front. Frank found himself in the rocking chair between the two.
Chase Elliot’s strong third place finish gave Mitch another 34 points, doubling his pre-race totals. Definitely a nice points day and it won’t be long before the siren on the Dawsonville Pool Room will be sounding again. Vicq looked real strong until Brad Keselowski ran out of go juice while out in front. He still pulled in another 22 points for Vicq keeping him within striking distance of J. L.
Tim is still looking for good things out of the 43. Bubba was off a bit this week but the good thing is you can still go from last to first-just ask PattyKay.
Here is last week’s results and new points totals.
Auto Club 400
Third stop on the Western swing and the big question on the track is who can stop Kevin Harvick. Brace, no brace... aluminum supports, supports made of something else... flapping roof, solid roof... air guns that work, air guns that don’t work. It doesn’t matter... It just doesn’t matter and the rest of the field looks on and laments like Bill Murray in “Meatballs”.
Off the track will points leader PattyKay Lilley stick with Harvick or go with someone else? Who else jumps on board the K-Train? Not so much to gain points but to not lose them. Will any take a big swing and go in a totally different direction in hopes of getting clean air and an upset?
See how it all turns out below
Well, it’s getting a bit stickier as we go to the Michigan clone in Fontana. Anyone without at least a healthy respect for Kyle Larson here is way out of line. He won here last year and has won the last THREE at the sister track. However, when one looks at laps led and average finish, a different story can be told. It might be iffy, but this lady is sticking with the guy that brought me to the dance… and the top of the points. Another run with Kevin Harvick!
Well, I certainly picked Larson for the wrong week, but when I've picked the same driver on consecutive weeks, that hasn't worked very well, either. Has the time come to chalk all the likely numbers on the carport floor and toss a coin into the air, picking the number closest to where it lands? Not yet, but maybe close. At least one more week of "I think I know enough to do this at least semi-intelligently." The Gibbs cars are knocking on the door, and I haven't picked my hometown guy in a while, so Denny, it's time for you to show your stuff and bring a California trophy back to the Old Dominion. The Cavaliers are taking on the NCAA, so you can conquer NASCAR, at least for this week. #11 Hamlin/Gibbs/FedEx it is.
After much thought and speculation, I have come to the conclusion that Kevin Harvick, in that #4 Ford, can definitely win 4 straight races. Kevin is a racer and Kevin has grit and his whole team is behind him this season.

There are so many great options for this race. Does Kyle Larson continue his success at this track? Is this when Jimmie Johnson turns it around? Is it Kyle Busch's time to get on the board with a win? All of those are great possibilities and an argument could be make for each.
There's also the belief that you have to ride a hot streak for as long as it continues and until it finally ends, I'm going with Kevin Harvick again.
This week, I am going to go with the man who I just posted an article about, because he gets it! This week the dr says.. #4 Kevin Harvick, going for win #4 to match his number!
Last week was somewhat of a bummer but I know it was not going to be a good day for Larson when they stated on Pre-race they didn't have the rear brake situation under control! On the good side they have speed in the cars and are the best of the Chevys!
So on to Fontana! What to expect? Harvick has been in his own zip-code now for three weeks. Great news for your youth movement, Fox!!! This is just great. Harvick is the BEST and as long as I don't pick him he can keep on winning wouldn't want to jinx him with that!!
So what about Jimmie and the HMS kids? Well they haven't got it right on the new Camaro and I don't think they will just yet. Maybe in the later part of the season they will but for now it up to strategy and chance if they do best chance for them would be M-vill.
JGR gang got the speed and even if they got two kids running along with Kyle and Denny they are a bit better off then HMS in this game where IMHO experience means more than youth! As I said a few weeks ago I think Truex Jr is not going to be as strong as he was last year, He will still win races and be in the hunt. So what about the rest? Well if any of them going to take home a win it have to be more of a chance a good call on a short track or fuel mileage or something like that.
With that over to my Pick of the week..... #18 Kyle Busch takes it this weekend!!
When asked if he wanted to stick with Bad Brad this week, Vicq confidently replied, “Yeah, think I'll stick with the #2 this week.”
My pick, every week, will be Bubba Wallace. My reasoning is my hope is that Richard Petty will have a successful year with his team and I'm supporting that hope every way I can.
I’ve taken the 22 since Daytona, but it’s time to take a new groove and see if I can find some clean air and make up some ground. I’m going to give the nod this week to Martin Truex, Jr.
